ROBOT VACUUM
One of the largest projects I had while working at Stanley Black & Decker was the Black & Decker robot vacuum. About halfway through the Vacuum development, my team started development on the app that would handle all the robot controls. I was in charge of designing the whole experience from start to finish.
CUSTOMER JOURNEY
Before starting the design process I worked with the marketing team to map out all the customer's touchpoints before and after purchasing the product.

ONE APP, TWO PRODUCTS

One of the biggest challenges on this project was incorporating the Vacuum app into an already existing smart battery app I had designed the previous year. Black & Decker wanted all of their smart products to be controlled by one app so I had to create a solution that would work with a completely different product with minimal rework.

DESIGNS
I wanted to create an experience that was very approachable. While testing our competitor's robot vacuums I found them to be overly complicated and even intimidating at times. Our customers were a little bit less tech-savvy so I wanted our app to be simple and fun to use. I thoroughly enjoyed designing the LED color picker and remote steering screens.

BETTER RATINGS
After launching the product we got mostly good reviews. PC magazine liked my "Simple, well-designed app" but we were getting a small number of bad reviews that lowered our app rating. I designed a new customer feedback flow that increased our app rating from 2.4 to 4.3 in 2 weeks. Many reviews and months later the app is now sitting at 4.7 out of 5 stars.
